It all started with a duvet cover.
One of those you turn inside out, hunt for the corners of, and end up half-trapped inside, while the duvet bunches up in a ball at the bottom.
A simple question
Everyone knows the scene. And everyone puts it off: we change the bedding less often than we'd like, because the duvet cover is such a chore. Mereloft started with a very simple question: why do we still have duvet covers at all?
The answer already existed in Germany and the Netherlands: the 2-in-1 duvet, with its cover sewn on. You lay it on the bed like a throw and put the whole thing in the washing machine. But when I looked at what was on offer, I mostly found microfibre versions, with very little time to change your mind.
The duvet I wanted to buy
So I set out to make the version I'd have loved to find:
- a cover in cotton percale, rather than microfibre;
- a 300 g/m² filling, warm enough for winter, light enough for summer;
- two reversible colours, so you can change the look of the room just by turning it over;
- and 60 nights to try it at home, because you judge a duvet in bed, not from a photo.
The hotel bed, without the chore
Around the duvet, we added what makes the difference in a hotel room: pillows you can adjust to the height you like, cotton bedding, and a mattress topper that softens the feel of your mattress. Not 300 products to scroll through: just a few, chosen to go together.
